_About the Artist

John Kromel has enjoyed fly-fishing and oil painting since he was in elementary school. He has perfected his fishing and painting techniques through years of study and practice working with many professionals to gain as much knowledge and technique as possible. He feels he is always learning something new about art and our natural world. A few years ago John became an avid fly tier.

Today, he combines these three interests into a way of life that has John feeling like he has found his “niche.” His studio, which just happens to be right next to one of his favorite fishing streams serves as a place where he can paint, tie flies, and contemplate how to combine these interests into a work of art. Like many fly tiers he has experimented with different patterns. He has experimented with painting various mayfly duns in local scenery.

John is very excited about his latest fishing/painting endeavor, and hopes you will enjoy these creations too. Please take a look at the photographs on this web page to see some of his work.

John says, “while tying flies in my studio one winter, it occurred to me that I had not seen paintings of mayflies in their natural habitat. Most of the flies I was tying were mayflies. My home is located right on Lost Creek and this scenic stream provided the inspiration for my paintings. I also spend a lot of time fishing Penns Creek and include this beautiful stream in my work.”
